Sustainability has been part of Sakura's identity from day one.
From its inception, Sakura embedded sustainability into its identity, choosing Sarawak for its renewable hydropower and committing to low-carbon, responsible growth. Powering a smelter with hydroelectricity instead of fossil fuels is one of the biggest levers a ferro-alloy producer has, and it was a deliberate choice from the start.
Our strong foundation in health, safety and environmental management has since grown into a comprehensive ESG framework that integrates economic, environmental, social and governance priorities across the business.
A 2024 materiality assessment identified thirteen key matters vital to our stakeholders and business success. These guide our strategy and reporting, structured into five sustainability areas that define Sakura's long-term focus.
